After years of hosting and maintaining the site and servers myself on Digital Ocean I’ve bitten the bullet and migrated to hosting it on WordPress.com
I have found myself with less and less time to maintain the site and the backend and so have moved to the WordPress hosted version to reduce the admin overhead of keeping the site updated, and secure.
Being a Blue Team block which also talks about hacking you can only imagine the sheer volume of attack traffic the site gets on a weekly basis, keeping it running just became too much effort.
I’ve not used WordPress.com before and am currently using the cheapest tier so I have no idea whether the site is up to it, and if it will be a long term solution.
I’ve also just realised that WordPress.com do not allow the instalment of any security related plugins unless you purchase the Business version at £20 per month. In my opinion this is just crazy as you should be able to at least install some basic security plugins to your site with the personal plan.
I might throw the site behind Cloudflare’s free tier for now and see how well that does, which we will of course provide updates on as we continue.
